A decentralized hot water system with modern instantaneous water heaters is a lot more efficient than the average centralized warm water systems. This means, for example, that they only produce as much hot water as is actually needed. It is exactly this effect that Clage wanted to enhance by creating an app for controlling and regulating these modern water heaters in order to enable an even more precise and tailored steering of temperature.

 

The challenge in developing the app was to compromise several rooms with multiple heaters used by multiple people with various needs in one compact interface. On top of that, the app should enable all users to not only steer but also set and maintain the various water heaters. This problem was solved by designing a centralized operator element, allowing all heaters installed in one room to be ran simultaneously. Within this feature, the various rooms could be chosen by push-button.

 

The overall design of the application is aligned to the product design language of the cage product range itself.

One important issue that was to be avoided at the initial installation was a complex set-up and recognizing procedure of the individual water heaters. Keeping this in mind, we developed an intuitive initial-installation-flow while orienting the set-up menu toward it.

In order to provide the app with some additional benefit, we added comfort features like demo-content. This content aims at explaining both features and operating mode of the application while opposing the functioning of centralized and decentralized hot water supply.
